Stalemate over stadium

image Gangtok, Nov. 2: Confusion prevails over the postponement of the first semi-final of the 29th All India Governor’s Gold Cup scheduled for November 5.

Members of the Sikkim Football Association (SFA), which is organising the tournament, have not issued any official release regarding the postponement. They claimed that there had been no “official” request from either the Central Reception committee, which wants to organise a show by Indian Idol Prashant Tamang at the stadium on that day, or the state sports and youth affairs department for possession of the stadium.

According to sources, the SFA will stand to lose Rs 7 lakh from gate receipts alone if it has to postpone the semi-final.
The reception committee approached the state sports and youth affairs department this evening for permission to use the stadium. The joint director of the department, R.K. Rai, told The Telegraph that the committee’s proposal would be placed before the departmental heads tomorrow for approval.

Prashant’s first album will be released at the show.
