Thousands gather at Bhaichung Stadium for the Idol concert

NAMCHI, November 06: The much-awaited dream of the people of South and West Sikkim was fulfilled with the arrival of the Indian Idol 3 Prashant Tamang here today. He reached here at 3:30 pm after a scintillating performance at Paljor Stadium, Gangtok yesterday evening.

The singing sensation was welcomed in a traditional way by the organising committee of Namchi here at the Dak Bungalow.

As he stepped in Bhaichung Stadium, the 30,000 strong crowd from West and South Sikkim and neighbouring West Bengal erupted in loud cheers and claps.

Sharing his views with the audience of Namchi, Prashant said that when he gave the audition for the Indian Idol at Kolkata, he had never thought that he would win the title. He thanked all the people for providing support by sending him large number of SMS and for the rallies held in his favour. He also congratulated the people saying that his victory is the victory of all his supporters. “The support provided by the people of Namchi will forever be etched in my memory,” he said.

He also said that since Charu Simwal was from Dehradun and knew a bit of Nepali language made them good friends.

Moreover, as a token of gratitude, the Indian Idol 3 presented few Bollyhood numbers.

During the thanksgiving programme, Prashant also promised his fans of Namchi to come back once his contract with Sony TV gets over. He also wished all the fans a happy and a safe Diwali ahead.

On his way to Namchi from Gangtok, the ‘Himalayan heart-throb’ was given a befitting welcome by his fans at Singtam, Temi Tarku and Damthang.

He was accompanied by his mother and sister along with the members from Kolkata Police, relatives and representatives from his home town Darjeeling.
